Marlin got around to certifying the m39s for High speed ammo use in 1933, a year after this gun was made. It took years for cartridge chamber specs to be standardised industry wide. The best I have done with the irons is 5/8" groups at 50 yards which is about as good as I can shoot iron barrel sights I have shot the gun enough to know it is reliable and accurate. The bottom pic shows the worst side veiw. It is very hard to see unless you are looking for it and nearly invisible on the left side. There is an old very well done repair to the stock toe. The wood is sound with VERY tight inleting and no cracks. Still has it's origional semi buckhorn and front bead sights. It is very clean with no major rust or pitting. The metalwork has a faded silvered case colors on the reciever and most of it's barrel and mag tube bluing. The rifle runs like a top and has a nice shiny bore. It has about 70% of its origional metal finish and nearly 100% of an old professional stock refinish. The gun is 100% complete with all it's origional parts. I have always shot standard velocity ammo in it.

This rifle is in the 15,000 serial range with an "S" prefix which means it was made just before Marlin rated the guns for High Speed anmo. This is a "Star tang" gun which denotes a high finish gun. 22 Short,Long and Long Rifle and has the 24" full octagon barrel. Well gents, here is ine you don't see everyday.
